Hell yeah, folks! This was the best party so far! Two mini-parties in one night. Four video screens going. Eleven guys (total) showed up.

Here’s my report.

I experimented with some new ways to set up the party and they all paid off.

The Scene

As usual we had a room in an upscale hotel. This time it was near Herald Square, about 2 blocks from Penn Station New York. The room There was one king size bed plus a couch big enough for two people and plenty of room to walk around. Unlike other parties, it didn’t feel cramped.

When I checked in the cleaning cart was in the hallway near the room, and I snagged 6 sets of towels for the room. This came in handy because some guys asked to shower. The hotel elevators didn’t require a keycard, which is a requirement when hosting a party like this. The room wasn’t cheap, but I think I’ll use this hotel in the future.

The room had a big TV and a desk big enough to hold the 2 flat-panel screens I brought. More on that later.

What’s new?

I’m always asking people how I can make the party easier to attend. Each party I try to improve the party in at least 2 small ways. This time I made the following changes:

Advertised on BateWorld: I listed the party as an event on BateWorld . Previously I’ve been advertising on dozens of chatrooms, all on IRC and Discord . That was a lot of work and didn’t reach many people local to NYC. Also, the people on those systems don’t seem to be looking to meet. Listing the event on BateWorld means that a lot more people would see it, and those people are much more likely to be looking to meet. Also, the website is more identified with being gay, so this filtered out a lot of straight guys that always seem to RSVP but not show up.

Found a better RSVP system: Because I listed the party on BateWorld, people could RSVP there. This made it easier for people to RSVP anonymously (or at least as anonymously as BateWorld can provide). BateWorld has has more privacy-related features than, say, Evite. A few people created profiles on BateWorld just to sign up for the party. For some reason that made me happy. On the downside, BateWorld doesn’t have good host tools (like… I can’t send mass messages, and I can’t turn off RSVPs without deleting the group). Using BateWorld, however, had a big benefit which is…

Let people know who’s attending: By using BateWorld’s RSVP system, people could view the profiles of people that had RSVPed. People could list as much or as little as they wanted on their profile. A surprisingly large number of people surveyed said that they wanted to know more about the other guys that would be at the party. I think this worked really well!

Video Projector: This is the one I was most excited about! I found a $200 video projector. The room didn’t have a big white wall to project onto but I aimed the projector at the ceiling. People sitting on the bed could see the ceiling pretty well. It added a little extra to the visual aspects of the party.

All these changes turn out to be great.

The Layout

When you first enter the room, you are welcomed with a small table that offers you a wristband : green (I’m interested), red (I’m not interested), and yellow (unsure… ask).

Nearly everyone picked a green wristband. Everone else seemed particularly relieved to have the option. I think this is a great way to break the ice.

I was also giving out packs of &ldquo;I <em>heart</em> my penis&rdquo; gum because… I saw them for sales and couldn’t resist. You can see the packs of gum in the top right of the previous photo.

The room had a nice big bed, a couch big enough for two, and plenty of space. Here’s a photo:

We had 3 flat-panel TVs (the two I brought plus the one that came with the room) plus a video projector.

The two largest screens were connected to Chromecasts so I could remotely control them from my laptop. The remaining flat-panel and the projector were directly connected to small laptops (Chromebooks). Since the Chromebooks were connected via a cable, I would have to get up and walk to them to make any changes. To make that less annoying, I set the flat-panel to play a 2-hour video and the video projector was set to play a playlist of short videos by two busty camgirls . I wouldn’t need to get up very often.

The two big flat-panel screens could be controlled from my laptop on the bed, so those were playing the videos guys suggested. I’m the porn DJ. I take requests and keep the screens playing porn.

Warming up

I arrived at the hotel at 2:30pm. Technically I couldn’t check in until 4pm, but I convinced them to let me by 3:30pm.

This was my thought process:

• 40+ people RSVPed. PANIC!
• For previous parties, 90% didn’t show up. So it’s ok, the room won’t be full. NO NEED TO PANIC.
• For this party, BateWorld was used and I think that audience is more likely to show up. PANIC!
• On the other hand, as each person RSVPed I wrote to them to ask for their email or phone number so that I could tell them to room number as soon as I got it. Only 50 percent of the RSVPs replied to my request. I assumed that if they wouldn’t take the time to answer, they weren’t going to show up. NO NEED TO PANIC.
• I counted how many email addresses and phone numbers I had, and even if half of THEM didn’t show up, the hotel room would still be overfull. PANIC!

So, since I was worried about a “success disaster” (the party is so successful that it is a disaster) around 3pm I sent everyone a message saying that I was splitting the party into “early” and “late” groups. This, I decided, would solve all problems. NO NEED TO PANIC.

So I sent everyone this message:

OH NO! I got more RSVPs than the room can handle. I’m going to split it into two parties: 4-8pm and 8:30-11pm. If you can come to the later one, please do so (and let me know).

Party A: 4-8pm (arrive between 4-5pm ONLY. Door closes at 5pm)

Party B: 8:30-11:30 (arrive between 8:30-9:30 ONLY. Door closes at 9:30pm)

I got a few updates from people telling me they’d be at the later party. I was happy with the results and no longer panicking.

As each person arrived I welcomed them, gave them a fist-bump, and told them to make themselves comfortable. I offered that there was a bathroom if they need to wash up, and asked them to select a wristband, which I helped put on them (their non-masturbating arm).

I also told each person “the rules speach”:

• Obey the color code of the wristbands;
• If you don’t like a video that is playing yell and I’ll change it;
• If a video ends, we’ll take turns picking the next video.

The first person to arrive was recruited to help set up. He hooked up the video screens while I set up the internet connection and set out the wrist bands and etc. I really appreciate how helpful he was. Thanks, dude!

A few more guys showed up and I still wasn’t finished setting up. It turns out the hotel’s TV had a dead remote (the battery was corroded). To make a long story short, maintenance came up with a new remote and I made him stand out in the hall as I went into the room to test it. By then 3 guys had arrived and they all hid in the bathroom even though the maintenance guy didn’t come into the room. It was kind of hilarious and everyone had a good laugh about it.

Note to self: In the future, test the TV as soon as I get into the hotel, and start the party late enough that we have time to fix things like this before anyone arrives.

The dirty details

The reason I ask people to arrive by 5pm is that I keep my clothes on in case I need to answer the door. At 5pm I can get naked!

By then more guys had arrived. It was 5 guys total (including me) and everyone was on the bed or couch. It put a big smile on my face to look at the bed and see 4 guys stroking as I lined up the videos.
